Brazil is the country of football really?

This phrase has been repeated so many times, inside and outside the country, which seems to be an absolute truth, universal, with no room for disagreement. But will reflect reality?

O Brasil é realmente o país do futebol?

Essa frase foi tantas vezes repetida, dentro e fora do país, que parece ser uma verdade absoluta, universal., sem espaço para contestações. Mas será que reflete a realidade?

Primeiro precisamos entender algumas "verdades absolutas", que na maioria das vezes não tem nada de verdadeiro.

Exemplo:

"O Brasil é o país do futebol"

Se algum dia foi, não é mais faz tempo.

No quesito "consumir futebol", estamos atrás de diversos países, inclusive da Argentina. Sim, nossos hermanos gostam muito mais de futebol que nós.

Nossa média de público em estádios é parecida com a 3ª (isso mesmo, TERCEIRA) divisão inglesa.

Programas de sócio torcedores ainda engatinham no país, sendo que na Europa já são tradicionais há anos.

"O Brasil forma os melhores jogadores do mundo"

Outra inverdade. Em primeiro lugar, nossa formação de atletas é deficitária e incompleta, pois os jogadores chegam ao profissional queimando diversas etapas básicas. Nossos laterais não sabem cruzar, os meias não chutam de média/longa distância, nossos centroavantes não sabem cabecear.

Segundo: A fama de exportação de "craques" deve ser melhor resumida: exportamos meias e atacantes de qualidade. Zagueiros, volantes, laterais e goleiros numa escala bem menor.

Talvez um epíteto mais verdadeiro seria "O Brasil é o país onde mais se pratica o futebol".

Aí sim é verdadeiro. Por aqui se joga futebol em quadras, campos, praias, várzea, ruas, calçadas, qualquer lugar.

Uma amiga que morou em Liverpool me diz que lhe chamou a atenção que, lá toda criança que vai jogar futebol, o faz com chuteira, meião, caneleira, bola oficial e em um gramado impecável.

Aqui basta uma bola, pode ser de meia, de plástico ou borracha, e o futebol já está rolando.

Também não podemos relevar questões culturais diferentes entre nós e os ingleses, por exemplo.
A empolgação do torcedor de clubes brasileiro é totalmente dependente da conquista de títulos por sua equipe.
Quando um time fica "na fila" por diversos anos, a torcida entra numa espiral descendente, diminuindo a presença em jogos, o consumo de produtos licenciados etc.

Na Inglaterra temos clubes como o Tottenham Hotspur, por exemplo, que só ganhou 2 Campeonatos Ingleses, sendo o último na temporada 1960-61. E nem por isso sua torcida deixa de lotar o White Hart Line (seu estádio) em toda a partida. O mesmo vale para o Sunderland, que foi campeao da Premier League pela última vez em 1935-36!

Pode ser que o Brasil seja o país onde mais se pratica o futebol. Ou um dos que mais pratica. Mas ainda precisamos aprender muito sobre organização de grandes eventos.

Independente de paixões clubísticas, é inegável que esta agremiação possua algo diferente, hipnótico e contagiante, capaz de fazer com que rivais afirmem ser seu segundo time, numa alusão a idéia de que o futebol jogado por esse clube desperte a atenção daqueles que admiram o esporte mais praticado no mundo.

Ao contrário do que possam afirmar alguns, não é pejorativo que o Santos não desperte tanto ódio de seus rivais, muito pelo contrário! Quem admira um bom futebol não descarta acompanhar os jogos do Peixe.

 Uma história rica de episódios interessantes e particulares, uma equipe com conquistas memoráveis, e dramas não menos relevantes, mas orgulhosa por feitos únicos como parar uma guerra durante 90 minutos para que os beligerantes pudessem assistir ao seu jogo, ou ter seus atletas servindo de base da Seleção Brasileira na maioria de suas conquistas, um clube com o destino de ter tido em suas fileiras o maior de todos os futebolistas, e que, contrariando o dito popular, prova que é possível sim que um raio caia duas vezes no mesmo lugar, revelando em cada década novas gerações de Meninos da Vila, jogadores diferenciados, praticantes sempre de um futebol cativante, bonito, de muita ginga e habilidade, um futebol tipicamente brasileiro!
